AUCHTERDERRAN - A PARISH HISTORY By A. MCNEILL HOUSTON

Kirkcaldy, 28th Aug.1782: Compeared Mr. Robert Heggie, factor for Mr. Oswald and pronounced a presentation by Claud Boswell esq., of Balmuto, patron of the Parish of Auchterderran to the said Church and Parish, in favour of Andrew Murray, preacher of he Gospel within the bound, dated 17th July last.

ST. BRYCEDALE CHURCH, KIRKCALDY by P. K. LIVINGSTONE

St Brycedale grounds. The grounds of about five acres were aquired in 1785 by Mr. James Heggie of Pitlessie. The following year the mansion house was erected by Mr. George Heggie. (This building was to become, successively, the home of William Stark Dougal, Patrick Don Swan, John Hunter, then finally, the Hunter Memorial Hospital.)

THE MINUTE-BOOK OF THE ABBOTSHALL BURIAL WATCH - 1819-30

Founded to safeguard the bodies and coffins of the dead. Met, variously, in the Links Meal Society and Links Parish School. 4 inhabitants stood guard, nightly. Funds were gathered to pay for watchmen, arms and with the intention of buying a morte-safe, or some other method of protection. The town was divided up for the collection of funds and/or a rota for the watch. They did not seem to collect much money for the number of people listed.
